Ethnomedicinal use of some plant species by Gujjar and Bakerwal community in Gulmarg Mountainous Region of Kashmir Himalaya

Background: Plants are being used since the time immemorial to alleviate sufferings and ailments. Herbal medicine forms an essential part of traditional primary medical system Kashmir Himalaya. Present study attempts report ethnomedicinal plant species against various ailments by Gujjar Bakerwal community Gulmarg Mountainous region district Baramulla, Jammu Kashmir.Methods: Extensive surveys were conducted in area different seasons during March 2019 July 2020 for collection medicinally important plants knowledge associated with them. Ethnomedicinal data was obtained through group discussions, semi-structured interviews, questionnaires field observations. During a total 54 informants (36 males 18 females) interviewed aged between 29-78 years. The interviews carried out local dialect all documented then translated into English.Results: A 60 belonging 56 genera 35 families reported be order treat Asteraceae recorded dominant family leaves most commonly utilized decoction as major mode herbal recipe preparation. highest ICF value 0.83 dermatological disorders. two Taraxacum officinale Viola odorata FL 100% Achillea millefolium, Chenopodium album, Phytollaca acinosa, Ajuga bracteosa, Cannabis sativa, Senecio chrysanthemoides medicinal according their use value.Conclusions: It observed that plays significant role meeting health care needs tribal communities living at high altitudes.
